This is not a proper blog. I mostly ramble about my current obsessions.

Ever wanted to try something simply because it was mentioned in a song, book, or movie? Horchata!
But what is it? Obviously it is some kind of drink. A quick search tells me it is a traditional Mexican sweetened rice based beverage served cold. There are many varying recipes but the general ingredients appear to be water, milk, rice, cinnamon, and sugar.
There are many warnings telling me my stomach will not be able to handle the sweetness and to not drink too much. I'm sure it's not that bad, I love sweet things. I would be more worried about the levels of cinnamon. I would probably prefer an aranciata (the other drink mentioned in the song) but that's a bit boring. Here is a recipe which appears popular.
NME made it out to be some big competition Pulp Vs. The Strokes.
There was no showdown, they weren’t going head to head and the effect on sales can’t have been phenomenal.
There were comparisons, side taking, and even some name calling. Who would put on the better show? I love Pulp and rather fond of The Strokes as well so didn’t really care, living on the other side of the world I was just excited at the prospect of the shows being broadcast and eventually filtering to me through the wonder that is the internet.
And then I woke up to this:
Jarvis Cocker and Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) covering The Cars Just What I Needed. OMFG! Good cover too.
I love when people I love hang out together and do awesome things.
Anyway, here are some super interesting facts:
Jarvis and Julian are probably my favourite people with the initials J.C.
I have seen both of their bands at Festival Hall.
Both bands didn’t play songs I desperately wanted to hear! 12:51 and Razzmatazz.
Pretty sure Julian Casablancas spoke to the crowd during that one song more than he did in the entire show in Melbourne, Jarvis must be a positive influence!
Anyway, getting sad that the Pulp concerts are coming to an end. Fingers crossed for something else (I need excuses to blog about them!). Also Ginger Pulp is still looking fine.
I’ve been experiencing lots of different music lately being a music reviewer’s side kick. It is probably beneficial for my indie snob tendencies right?
It has certainly been interesting.
I learnt not to order margarita pizzas from Transit bar.

He made my face hurt from laughing/smiling too much. I would like to see him have a dance off with Bob Fossil. Yes.
Anyway, last week we saw The Beards and having watched this video I was a little terrified as someone incapable of growing a beard.Also not having heard any of their music I wondered what the quality of the songs a band who only sang songs on the topic of beards would be.
Now, I don’t like beards in general. They kind of gross me out really, I blame Roald Dahl (I should really stop blaming children’s authors for the state of my mind). And pash rash is super unfortunate.
So the band! They were fun. Their beards were well groomed and their songs weren’t anywhere near as bad as the ballad my father sang as I left the house to go see them.
I rather enjoyed A Wizard Needs a Beard and No Beard, No Good.
And one special punter gave us the experience to "consider having sex with a bearded man" as we jostled to leave the venue. We politely declined.
Sadly, I haven't changed my mind regarding beards. I really wish there was a band devoted to sideburns, as a bar full of sideburned chaps would be quite delightful.
Since seeing Pulp almost a month ago my Pulp/Jarvis Cocker obsession is at an alarmingly pleasant level. Pleasant for me, possibly annoying for others. I have purchased some lovely posters, a book, and an awesome Jarvis pin.
I'm looking forward to all my goodies arriving in the post.
I've been watching lots of videos on you tube and I came across a pretty great documentary about Common People called The Story of "Common People". Watching it has inspired me to want to learn the dance from the song's video clip. Sadly, the skilled googler that I was couldn't find a tutorial already made. So here is a super dodgy run through.

Rhys Darby
He played everyone's favourite band manager in Flight of the Conchords. Was amazing in Love Birds - which I can not recommend enough, I really loved that movie. And he is hilarious live, he can make noises/voices you could not imagine coming out of a human. Go see him. <3
I never got the whole prejudice against gingers, quite the opposite. I guess I can blame having awesome red head friends/family and J.K. Rowling for my love of gingers.
I aim to document some foxy gingers and hope to inspire a love of gingers in whoever may stumble upon this.
Leo Abrahams Ginger Pulp
"I didn't know there was a ginger in Pulp!".
Whilst not technically a member of Pulp, Leo is currently touring with the band and looks like he is enjoying himself. He is a skilled guitarist and has collaborated with loads of talented musicians. And everyone knows that males who are musically talented are exponentially more attractive, not that he needs help there.
Ricky Wilson
Ricky Wilson is the front man of the Kaiser Chiefs, he is very good at climbing things, playing tambourine, and wearing vests. He is at least the third most attractive Kaiser Chief. I spent a year worrying that he was going to die falling off something or something when I was younger. He does awesome things like make awesome videos and clean up after riots he all but predicted.
Josh Homme
Josh Homme. QOTSA. Eagles of Death Metal. Them Crooked Vultures. Just google him already.
He is very good at filling rooms with big smelly men. And once I dreamed about him getting it on with Susan Kennedy from Neighbours.
